A few months ago, I was looking for a fun gift to make for some of the ladies in my life. Ladies that are very near and dear to me. Okay, the gifts were for my grandmother. And my mom. And my sister-in-law. And my aunt. Okay, the gifts were for Mother’s Day.
Yes, I realize Mother’s Day was awhile ago, and I’m just now getting around to sharing this homemade gift with you. What can I say … better late than never, right? And when you think about, it’s really the perfect time since the holidays are just around the corner. Now you can make something homemade for the lovely ladies in your life too!
Have I pleaded my case enough? Okay … moving on!
What I whipped up for those lovely ladies in my life was a homemade brown sugar and vanilla scrub. I’ve bought scrubs like this in the past from one of those large “body and bath” retailers, and I spent quite a chunk of change on them.
Can you believe you can make the same things at home for much, much less … and with all-natural ingredients? Yes, my friends you can … and it’s easy. Take four simple ingredients, add ten minutes of time, and you have a wonderful gift ready for giving. Yes, it’s really that easy!

Homemade Brown Sugar and Vanilla Scrub
Ingredients:
- 2 cups light or dark brown sugar
- 1 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 pint-size Mason jars
Directions:
1. Place the brown sugar in a medium-size bowl.
2. Add the olive oil, honey, and vanilla; stir to combine.
3. Once thoroughly combine, scoop half of the mixture into one Mason jar and half into the other.
4. To give as a git, tie a length of ribbon or raffia around the jar, then add a decorative label.
NOTES: This scrub is made from all-natural ingredients; it will separate. Just stir before each use! It will also keep well at room temperature for quite a long time (probably as long as it takes to use up the amount in each jar). Finally, if you plan to use this scrub in the shower and bath, please note that it will leave surfaces very slippery … be careful!
One more thing … see that adorable label on top of my jar of sugar scrub? I absolutley cannot take credit for it. The lovely Tara over at Simple Blessings Design made it, and she’s made a free printable that you can use too. Tara also has a fabulous sugar scrub recipe as well, so you should check that out while you’re checking out her site too!
