The Chef and I don’t usually give each other gifts for Valentine’s Day … just being together is enough for us.
Yes, we are *that* couple.
But, when my friends at UncommonGoods emailed and asked me to check out their Valentine’s Days gifts (available here), I jumped at the chance to get The Chef some things that I knew would make his day … and let him know how much I appreciate exactly who he is.
Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, UncommonGoods is a web-based marketplace that strives to feature unique designs and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people — a mission I fully endorse.
As if that weren’t enough, UncommonGoods also makes it their mission to support and provide a platform for artists and designers — half of what they sell is made by hand — and most of the products the sell are created in the United States. In addition, they donate $1 from every purchase to their not-for-profit partner organizations; all told, they’ve donated over $1,000,000 dollars to charities around the world since they started the program!
Now, if you know The Chef, you know he’s, well, a chef, but in his rare time off, he’s also an avid backyard beekeeper … and he loves to tinker in the garage, whether it be working on his beehives or crafting some other woodworking project.
Knowing all that I chose to get The Chef some unique gifts that speak to all his hobbies:
- “I’m Nuts About You” key ring: Since The Chef has a collection of nuts and bolts just waiting to be used, I wanted to let him know I’m nuts about him too … and if you look closely, this hand-assembled in the USA key ring also looks like a bee!
- Spicy Honey: Handmade in Brooklyn, New York, this incredibly delicious treat is made with raw honey from independent beekeepers in the Hudson Valley and a special combination of chili peppers. It’s totally up The Chef’s alley!
- Mead Making Kit: Every since he became a beekeeper, The Chef has been wanting to make mead from our honey. With this mead making kit (which includes other bits not shown here), he’ll have all the right ingredients for the project!
- “What I Love About You by Me” book: Now, this has nothing to do with any of The Chef’s hobbies, but it spells out exactly what I love about him … and no, I’m not going to show you what I wrote inside!
The Chef also loves his bourbon so a whiskey-stones gift set (available here) or a corkcicle (available here) would also have been a great choice … I guess I know what I’m getting him for his birthday next year!
So, whether you’re looking for a unique Valentine’s Day gift for your special someone or a hostess gift to take to your next gathering (available here), UncommonGoods has exactly what you’re looking for!
