Welcome to Rhubarb and Honey, a life + style blog for my latest projects, all aimed to inspire you to celebrate everyday life. Hi, I’m Kimberly, and I’m responsible for all the content you read on this blog.
Rhubarb and Honey was born in 2010, the love child of my first two food blogs, Everybody Loves Cheese and Adventures in Eating Locally, which both debuted in 2007. After almost three years of maintaining two separate blogs, I decided to combine them into one, and thus, Rhubarb and Honey made her entrance into the world … and she’s been thriving ever since!
My culinary style can best be described as 80% “fresh / local / sustainable”and 20% “nostaligic / somewhat bad for you / everything in moderation.” I’m an avid home cook who likes to play in the kitchen, but I also gain tons of inspiration for my recipes from all my “extracurricular activities” — whether it’s serving as a principal organizer of the St. Louis Food Media Forum, an advisory board member for Slow Food St. Louis, or just helping out my brother and sister-in-law’s competitive BBQ team, Serious Que BBQ. I’m also frequently joined in the kitchen by my husband (“The Chef”), who, yes, just happens to be the Chef de Cuisine at an upscale, full-service catering company.
My personal food philosophy is that healthy, delicious food, preferably produced locally and in a sustainable manner, should be available to everyone. To that end, I strive to use as much local, organic, and/or artisanally-produced food as possible when preparing the recipes available on Rhubarb and Honey (to learn more about where I source ingredients from, please see the Recommended Resources page of this blog.)
More About Me
Apart from blogging at Rhubarb and Honey, I work full-time as a senior product manager for an international publishing company. I’m also a freelance food writer, occasionally writing and developing recipes for Feast Magazine and other online publications.
Outside of the food world, my personal interests include theater, crafts, photography, and community activism. I’ve previously served on the boards and committees of Echo Theater Company (Advisory Board Member), Food Outreach (Development Committee), i-squared: The Young Friends Network of the International Institute (Immediate Past President), and Metropolis St. Louis (Secretary, Living Environment Chair).
In addition to talking about food here at Rhubarb and Honey, I’ve decided to branch out and show you my love of crafts, interior design, and photography as well, hence the tagline, “Mostly food … always delicious!”
The Chef and I recently completed the process of building a new home, and as the aunt of two adorable nephews and one fabulous niece, coming up with creative ideas to keep them occupied has become a regular part of my life … and capturing it all on film is just plain fun. Oh, you may also see mention of The Chef and my’s insane (and insanely cute) cats, Domino and Sophie.
So, is there anything else you need to know? Well, I’m addicted to magazines and shoes. Clowns freak me out. So do escalators. I love kitties, strong iced tea, and all things coastal. I can’t whistle, and I frequently daydream about moving to the beach.
